About Joan – Founder of Pathways.ie
Hello! I’m Joan Broderick, Founder of Pathways.ie, a platform dedicated to supporting parents and students during the transition from secondary school to college in Ireland.
With over 30 years’ experience in education and healthcare, I understand just how overwhelming it can feel – both as a parent and as a student, when you don’t know where to turn. Whether it’s worries about student life, finances, or fitting in, the stress is real.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with students and families across both second and third-level colleges in Ireland. I’ve seen first-hand the challenges they face, from academic pressure to accessing essential supports and I know how to help navigate these hurdles before they become roadblocks.
As a former college health nurse and access to education coordinator, I’ve supported students dealing with hardship, disability, and personal struggles. I’ve also worked as a disability advocate, with a strong focus on independent living and equity in education.
And as a mum to three college graduates, I’ve lived this journey myself, more than once. That experience, combined with my professional background, inspired me to create Pathways.ie: a space where families can get clear, practical advice, and feel less alone.
If you’re looking for down-to-earth guidance to help you and your student navigate the college transition with more confidence, you’re in the right place.
